Public safety vs green
There are a lot of houses in my area that are being torn down due to being condemned. Lots of them look quite fixable but once a building has been listed as condemned, you cannot take that information out of publc knowledge so the building is worthless with the only "way out" being to tear it down and sell the lot to a new owner. Condemning buildings is a job of health inspectors and needs to be done sometimes but I think there are a lot of options that should be explored before the condemning option. |

Time is right for talking animals
Lots of different popular media are including realistic animals that can talk. Most seem to be genetically modified somehow to give them the ability to talk and think abstractly. This indicates that they are still not believing that animals have what it takes to talk in their natural state but still believes that, given the right modifications, they might be able to talk. This "modified" approch is distinctly different then the fantacy approch previously used saying some sort of magic was involved or the animal in question has some special gift or the human-transformed-to-animal reason. Even the space alien or parallel universe or "cartoon world" can all be a form of fantacy rather then actual animals talking in the real world. Next step would be to show talking animal characters who are not modified but rather using tools to communicate rather then trying to vocalize human language. The book "Space Station Rat" had the rat character typing on the computer keyboard (although the rat character was also specified as a "modified" rat) and trained to do so (trained to hack into computers without setting off security alarms). The step from that storyline to my training rodents to talk using a computer and sounds the animals in question naturally make for the language is a smaller step then straight from cartoons or Alvin and the Chipmonks. |

Custom Wolf Masks!
I am accepting mask commissions. I know this isn't an auction of sorts, but I figured I'd try. Please read all below before requesting.
Mask Materials Unlike this mask, it will be molded out of a wax base plasteline molding. Instead of multiple colors and different grains of fur, it will all be furred over with a white soft fox fur (60" width, pile height 3 5/8" 40% acrylic and 60% modacrylic), unless you request a plain solid color fur. It will be airbrushed for the realistic wolf markings any way you want with a limit of 4 colors per mask. The jaw, eyes and nose will be ordered from a taxidermist (just like the image shown). Mask Function The masks will be shaped like a realistic wolf head and will be lightweight and easy to fit to your specific head shape. The mask will cover your head completely, with black mesh covering the eye holes, but still plenty of space where you can see where you are walking. The jaw will also be fully functional and movable with your own jaw (to give the illusion that the wolf is talking). Also, unlike the image above, the ears will look MUCH more realistic. Those wanting special features like a fan blowing in your face (installed in the muzzle) will need to pay extra. Prices can be negotiated based on prices of the fans. Time Frame Please give me up to a month to complete the mask (if you want your money's worth and quality). Cost Asking price with all items above included is $200. As a special deal, I'll be willing to throw in werewolf gloves for $10! (This deal is only for those commissioning a mask). I'm willing to negotiate the price of the mask, but it must be reasonable to compensate me for the time and cost to make the mask. ***If you want the price to be lower: you can opt out the taxidermist jaw, nose, and eyes, and allow me to make them from scratch. That will save you $50! However, for the best quality and realistic look, I highly recommend getting the taxidermist items.*** Shipping Shipping costs will be a little extra, but will be based on your actual location and the weight of the package. Payment Types and Plans I accept payments via PayPal: eCheck, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. *YOU DO NOT NEED A PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO USE IT* I accept payment plans as well such as pay half now-half later or smaller increments of payments over a scheduled period of time. I won't begin working on the mask until a deposit of at least 20% of the final price is paid before hand. Once I reach a point, I will stop will require more of the balance payment before continuing to work on your mask. Until full payment of the agreed price is made, I will not ship the mask to you. Contact me for questions or to request: Email: me@werewolfhaven.net And of course, you can message me here. Current Mood: bouncy |

Handicap accessable basement
I want to have as many suits in my house to be handicap accessible but elevators and chair lifts for stairs are expensive and somewhat dangerous in the event of a fire. I want to instead have a gentle ramp down to the basement and a gentle ramp up to the main floor and have both ramps be integrated into the landscaping. I measured things and I think I can make it work as long as I eliminate a few trees (which are blocking the sun for solar and greenhouse anyways). The next aspect will be to get fire escape windows for the suites that can be exited by someone in a wheelchair somehow. |

Unlimited internet on a cel phone
I am pleasently surprised at how cheap unlimited internet was for my new cel phone but unlike my old cel phone, I cannot use it as a modem for my regular computer unless I change the plan to one with a limit to the internet use. Because of this, I think I should try to get it set up with all my internet applications. I am not so sure about some of the applications though... I want things like Second Life and Shoutcast radio and some sort of full featured IRC... not so sure I can get those working. |

Unemployment and lack of young farmers
Proverbs 17:5 If you make fun of poor people, you insult God who made them. You will be punished if you take pleasure in someone's misfortune. The news had two interesting items in it today: 1) unemployment figures for Canada rose instead of falling as usual for Canada and in the USA, the unemployment hit the double digits (10.2). 2) young farmers are almost non-existant in Canada and the farmer's union is trying to figure out why and how to get young people to take up farming. Unemployment recovery lags recession recovery because employers are making sure the recovery is actually happening before they start hiring. I tend to think there is something else at play because the numbers are actually rising steeply meaning more people are being fired. The other possible reason for an increase is actually a bit more tragic... people who were not looking for a job now have a benefactor who has become poor and can no longer support such people. This spells a lot of emotional pain on both sides of "the fence". I am not so sure of said end of the recession... among the poor, it is not going to be good anytime soon. For a couple decades now, farmers in Canada have been on the edge of bankrupsy due to poor grain prices and rapidly increasing input costs (grain transport costs, fuel, fertilizer, chemicals, registered seed, land taxes). An older farmer who owns equipment and land can tough-it out through a few net-loss years but newer farmers need guarenteed income to pay mortgages and loans on land and equipment. With all the failed new farmers selling out at any cost due to being unable to meet their payments, land prices have remained low so mortage adjustments are not an option either. Saying there is a recovery is rather a slap in the face for the poor people who still have to face possible layoff with no optional job if they do get layed off. |

MFF Approaches. I'll be there!
Do you know how healthy your immune system is? H1N1 is pretty rampant right now, and while most will experience it as nothing more than "another flu", it allegedly does have a higher mortality rate and more severe symptoms. That doesn't mean you should panic, but it does mean it's good to be safe and take precautions, no? MFF is in 2 weeks. You should start building your immune system now - drink lots of orange juice. Take your vitamins. Eat good leafy-green vegetables. ...Because you know that there will be folks going to the con even if they are deathly sick. And you know it will spread, because everyone wants to cuddle everyone, and many furs aren't very sanitary in the first place. My prediction: worst furry con crud numbers ever. I hope I'm wrong. 2000+ people attending, crammed into a smallish convention space. Stay healthy folks. Not trying to spread more silly propaganda that H1N1 is this uber-terrible thing, but still...I'd like to stay not-sick myself! ;P But yeah, happy times! I'll be at MFF after all, as things worked out that I'll be able to go (pop's surgery was pushed back a couple of weeks). Who will I see there?! |

Choreographers in animation
I found a scratched up disk of favorite episodes of certain NickJr TV shows. Using newspaper as a mild abrasive and new underwear as a polishing cloth, I got the disk working. On it is a show called "Backyardigans" but at the time there was some cool music on the radio so I watched it without sound (just interested in the animation generally). I was surprised that the characters were doing dozens of dance moves and with such accuracy that I could name many of the moves or dance styles. In the credits they had a choreographer and a long list of dancers... for an animated show? ...crazy but cool! I noticed that a lot of people who say they don't like animation in general also say the animation they do like is when characters are dancing. |

Short pile white fur
Where is the best place to purchase a nice thick short pile white fur? I'm looking for something that I don't have to shave down, and preferably not seal fur. I can't seem to find any :[ |
