Apparently Sick
I hate to admit it but I seem to be sick. I dunno if it's from the cat or not; it left red scratches a couple times but I washed them vigorously and they don't look funny at all. As for symptoms, let's see... I've developed a fever, it's hard to deny that now. On Monday I was having light dizzy spells and a sort of dazed sensation at the Munch. The last two nights I've had terrible heartburn/acid reflux that even taking two extra-strength Rolaids doesn't seem to be able to keep down for long. I've barely been able to sleep. I thought the sleep problem was due to the cat but it might have been the illness or a combination. Definately last night it was the acid. Bad indigestion. I've been pooping a lot, and farting even more, really nasty smelly stuff. I've been hungry a lot as well yet nothing really seems to satisfy me. I've had periods where my mouth feels really dry, though that usually gets better about ten minutes after drinking some water. I dunno, it's not like any illness I'm familiar with, especially the super-heartburn. I dunno what to do. Well, not much of what to do. I still have at least one clean pot so I'm going to go heat up a can of soup, then try to lay down and rest. Hopefully I'll feel better soon. Current Mood:  sick |

A Parting Delayed
After a lot of thought I decided to give up the cat to the Humane Society, and hope they can find her a nice home. I don't want the responsibility of cleaning up after a pet when I have so much difficulty cleaning up after myself. I asked my neighbor and he doesn't want to take care of it either, he doesn't mind it being stray but she's a female, and with no way of knowing if she's spayed, well, it's only a matter of time before she gets knocked up and a cycle of tragedy is spun again. So, the humane society told me that since I don't have a car or a cat-box that I should call animal control and have them pick it up. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the telephone number for animal control. I'm not sure why. I thought it would be at the front of the phone book, but it wasn't. I tried the yellow pages, but only found an exterminator. I tried 411.ca but only found animal control for other cities. I tried calling the Humane Society again and asking them for the number, but I was sent to their answering machine, perhaps because it is lunch time. It's frustrating to have to wait. Right now almost all of my dishes are dirty and my sink has been full for four or five days. My clothes are all dirty as well so I need to do laundry, but I just keep wearing the same dirty shirt every day. I really don't want to clean the litter box either, and it's not fair to the cat to force it to live somewhere like that. Like so many things in my life, the idea of having a cat is nice, but it's not worth the work that it requires. One thing that having this cat around has shown me is that cats just aren't people. I'm lonely, yes, and this cat isn't filling any kind of void for me. I'm not lonely for animals, I'm surrounded by animals and I can go to the children's farm any time I like. I'm lonely for people. In the worst case scenario, after four days holding in case of her being a lost pet, I can re-adopt her, spayed and with shots, for around $150. I don't want to spend that kind of money on anything, but when it comes down to it, I can, if I need to. Alas. I've spent some time writing this. Now I'm going to try and call the Humane Society again, and if they're still busy I'll go for a walk before calling again. Edit: Animal _Control_ my foot. They won't come and pick up the cat unless it's in a humane container, like a cat carrying case or a big cardboard box. Why would I even have something like that? Why don't THEY have reusable containers? For goodness sake... Edit 2: Apparently there's no law requiring cats to be taken in, so they have no resources. They do take them in if somebody traps them or puts them in a box, but they won't chase after cats. Other animals, maybe, but not cats. I made a makeshift cat box and added some airhole windows, and when she escaped from it I reinforced it and put her in again. She wasn't happy about being trapped but she dealt with it. Then the animal control lady came by just now and took her away on a grand adventure. Fare-thee-well, white cat. Current Mood:  depressed |

Talent pool for artists?
More on the topic of Garth Williams and the book he wrote of a black and a white rabbit getting married... Rosemary Wells has written and illustrated a lot of children's books and is very talented at doing so. Her weak point is the beautiful anatomy that Garth puts into his animal illustrations. Both of these author-illustrators feature rabbits in a lot of their books and Garth did a series of books about a daring male rabbit but due to publishing costs of the time, were illustrated in black and white lines only. Rosemary has republished one of these books after committing Garth's black and white ink illustrations to the beautiful watercolors that Rosemary can do. This particular book in the series about this rabbit has him finding and courting a female rabbit. The illustrations give no indications of fur color (although the text might) but Rosemary chose to make our hero brown and the female love interest white like the wife of the controversial rabbit marriage in a different book by Garth... homage to Garth's controversy? I think collaboration is a great idea between illustrators but in many ways impractical. I think we need a "producer" role for book production who can find and hire the appropriate artist team members to make the best book possible for the least effort. (although if that was the case, we might miss out on the leg-less bunny designs Rosemary is famous for) |

Brain washing or keeping your mind clean
Garth Williams illustrated lots of classic children's novels like Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web, Cricket in Times Square series, the Bianca and Bernard series but he also wrote some himself which became well known. One of his books was widely banned from libraries though because some people thought it was a form of brainwashing for children. This "brainwashing" turned out later to specifically making kids think it was OK to have inter-racial marriages which is now considered acceptable but in the 1950s was not so accepted. Garth claims he had no such message when he had a black and a white rabbit getting married but rather just thought a black and white horse together looked artistically idyllic and thought the same would be true of the rabbits. I want to stretch the thinking of people beyond believing that only humans can think for themselves and thus have goals and imaginations and feelings. Is showing non-human characters with such a human-like brain a form of brainwashing or is it keeping young minds clear of the closed-mindedness of humans in the past on this matter? If it is brainwashing, then Bugs Bunny has been brainwashing long before I will. |

Why was JarJar such a loser?
The first three movies in the series are a prequel of the original three so any new character species would bring up the question "why are they not in films 4-6?" JarJar, a Gungan is a new species but so many people hated him... maybe that hate was designed so new audiences will not be disappointed that JarJar and other gungans do not show up later in the series. The other option (for non-humanoid characters) would be to give strong role parts to other ewoks or wookies. |

Girls Dream Defense Force
They finished translating the first 52 episode story arc of Onegai My Melody, and I finished watching the two-part finale. Very fun series, and I hope the translators keep going right through the next two series. <3 This may be a bit spoilery if you haven't seen the end of Onegai My Melody, though honestly, I can't imagine any of you being unsure how the ending would go, if any of you are even watching it. Adventure Cat is on an Adventure
I didn't have any more cat food and the store I bought it from was closed. The cat nommed up some of the crumbs but was still hungry. I noticed some squirrels were outside playing on the log pile, so I decided to let her out to play. She scared the squirrels a bit, then worked her claws on a tree outside for a bit. After that she was gone. I'm not sure where she went. She hadn't been making any serious effort to get outside, and I figured she would be meowing plaintatively just outside the door. I guess I don't mind, though. If she has places to go, I'm happy for her. I wouldn't be too surprised if I found her meowing outside before too long, though. Unfortunately, I'm going to bed soon so she might be stuck out there all night. ^.^;; I left the cup of water I made for her outside, in case she needs a drink. Maybe I'll put the dirty towel she was laying on out there too, so she has someplace to nap if she comes back. Of course, she might never come back. Such is life. I wonder what she's up to, now? Hmm. Fox Fur for Sale
I'm going to be putting a bunch of fur up for sale soon but want to discuss this one on its own first.  I went fur shopping this week and amazingly came across a rust red fox fur in a local store. It is *not* the exact same colour as the discontinued Monterey Mills Red fox - but to all my senses it is identical in every other way. For all I know it is left over from a light (and so unsold) dye lot of that fur. And I actually quite like this lighter fur (something like raw sienna in colour) as it is perhaps more of a realistic shade. In the photos the new fur is on the left and MM's rust fox is on the right. ( Read more... )I bought a few yards for my own use, but (given how this colour and length is so desired) I'm willing to sell them. It is not cheap fur, so I'll willing to let it go for $50/yard ($25 for a half yard) plus shipping. I also have a few yards of a unique chocolate brown 3 inch fur I've never seen anywhere else. I used it on my targ (chest and bottom of the ribcage). It's of the same quality and length and I'll let it go for the same price. I can upload a photo on request.

Hungry Cat is Hungry
I picked up a can of wet catfood last night, and fed it to the cat. It was a long time before she'd eat it, but then suddenly she went to town and gobbled up the whole can. Today I went and got a second can, and put it on the floor in the morning, and she ate it all right then. But, now she's pushing the empty can around with her nose, and meowing plaintitively at me when I get close. The cans say that they're one day's worth of cat food, but the cat it obviously hungry. The initiate
First and foremost, big big thank yous are owed to Tauros, Brabant and Beachfox, those of whom I would not have been able to get home without. You all were very kind and generous in donating your time and resources to allow me to get back to my stables safely. Thank you all very, very much. Second, I would like to thank my windbrother, Dain, for allowing me to be his sidekick for what turned out to be nearly three weeks. A very expensive sidekick at times, at that! It truly was the experience of a lifetime, and I think we ran into just about every situation we could have while I was riding with you. Thank you so much windbrother, I owe you more than I can probably ever hope to repay. Third, I would like to thank my friesian, Equus, for patiently awaiting my return at home and keeping an eye on our triangle monster in my absence, and for being a loving, caring horse to a shire for almost 5 years now. I look forward to showing you what I've learned this month, and to many more happy years together with you, if you'll have me. I love you always. Now, on to what I learned while I was at the lovely beachside house at the Rio Del Mar. Brabant and I have been having discussions on and off throughout this trip- but this was indeed the first time I got a chance to speak in person, and more importantly, got a chance to show him my strange talents with a keyboard. He had this to say, in so many words. He said I seem to be searching, very hard, for an initiation... something comparable to being baptized, or ones confirmation for christians, the bar mitzvah for the jewish people... some event, some act that declares that you have crossed the line. A rite of passage that says yes, I can point to this and say unto you veritably that I am equine, because I have done this. This raises two points; first, that I very much agree with this idea, and once again having it put into this light makes it leagues easier to understand. And second.... that there is no such thing. No initiation into being accepted among equine kind exists, unless it's so obscure as to be useless by way of proof anyways. With that said, a lot of what has gone on in the last three weeks has been about seeing things in a different light. Changing the tint on my glasses, allowing me to see things from a perspective other than the one I've been locked into for ages. Perhaps what I was looking for in myself was grey, and if my "glasses" filter out grey, I'd see nothing, right? I am coming back from this trip with a much, much broader perspective on my own life. Brabant said as well that some extended contact with 4-hooved equines would likely be what I need, at this point. As I recall, he said I was "90% there." by his estimates. I think that he's right, in that such exposure would allow me to see that horses are imperfect creatures too- and that I'm closer to them than I give myself credit for already. So that, as they say, is that. I'm ready to move forward again, and goodness knows I have a backlog of work here at home now to catch up on, but I'm happy for that. It means in a way that I do have a purpose here at home, until such a time that I finish my driving and pick up that elusive job that's on the horizon, just out of sight. I promised myself that I'd come back to my stables a bigger, more mature stallion, and I do believe I can declare that I have done so in spades. I leave a bit of my childhood behind, but by the same token there will always be the colt I carry with me... after all, I am fairly certain everyone's going to keep calling me a silly colt until the day I pass on for the fields above. And honestly, I'm alright with that. :) They'll know I'm a big stallion when I get behind them and....*grins* Thanks for keeping up with my journal on this big long trip, everyone. I hope you'll stay with me as Equus and I move on to continue our journey together :) As always, your insights and thoughts are most welcome, so I'd love to hear what you think. :) Flare Current Mood:  content |

Blanket weed control
I was looking at buying landscape fabric to keep weeds from growing in graveled areas but figured bed sheets and felt blankets might also do the job (lots thrown out but may have bedbugs... no problem as a landscape fabric use. |

Cars crash my dreams
Lately a lot of my dreams include vehicle accidents. I have been hesitant to drive... even drive my bicycle due to the risk of accidents. I am thinking of designing energy-self-sufficient city communities where vehicles are kept well away from everything else (like pedestrians and bicycle paths). Cars not kill a lot of people but they also use a lot of energy, break up communities, kill wildlife and pets, cause the worst forms of pollution, take up a lot of taxes for roads and health care, and as an anarchist, cars bring a lot of rules and regulations with them. |

Tablet PC used as a cel phone
I want a tablet PC - a laptop type of computer with a touch-sensitive screen to be used to make art on it so it is visually like drawing and painting on a real surface). I would like it smaller as I have been told smaller areas are easier top work on and I would expect the smaller screen to use less power. Lots of laptops now have built-in wireless capability and suspect someone has figured out how to use a laptop as a cel phone... I want to put everything into that same unit. |
